When design makes history: Steinberg faucets in the new film by Joshua Oppenheimer

In Joshua Oppenheimer’s latest film The End, the spotlight doesn’t only shine on the actors—set design also plays a starring role. For the bathroom scenes, the two-time Oscar-nominated director relied on Steinberg’s design expertise.

The End is a visually striking musical that follows the story of the last surviving family, living in a luxurious bunker two decades after a climate catastrophe. The high-profile cast includes Tilda Swinton, Michael Shannon, and George MacKay. Within this meticulously composed setting, Steinberg’s Series 350 faucets seamlessly integrate and elevate the film’s atmosphere.

“We were approached because nothing is left to chance in a production like this—not even the materials or the design language,” explains Johannes Löhnert, Managing Director of Steinberg, who was personally present on set to support the product’s staging. The faucets don’t merely appear in passing—they feature in key scenes where light, space, and the human body are cinematically interwoven. The design of Series 350—formally restrained, precisely crafted, subtly nostalgic—aligns effortlessly with the film’s narrative concept.

“We were invited to the premiere and were deeply impressed by Tilda Swinton’s intensity—especially in scenes where she shared the frame for several minutes with our faucets,” Löhnert adds.
“Experiencing how naturally our design fits into that visual language was a special moment. Being part of this extraordinary production—and working alongside a house like CHANEL, which designed the costumes—was a real honor. I see the presence of our faucets in this film as a testament to our design expertise.”

With The End, Steinberg demonstrates that great design doesn’t just shape spaces—it tells stories.
